Mac Miller Covers Billy Preston’s 1974 Hit

As stated in the parallel post to Mac Miller‘s other “Spotify Single” selection “Dunno,” the late rapper’s musicality remains unparalleled among his peers. Upon drawing inspiration from past eras, as many musicians do, Mac can actually use acoustic instruments to bring life to his emotions. Today, Mac’s prowess shines through, given a second life by a pair of “Spotify Singles.” While “Dunno” showcases the nuances of his emotional writing on Swimming, he opts to come through with a cover of Billy Preston’s 1974 hit “Nothing From Nothing.”

Preston, who fans might recognize through his work on The Beatles’ iconic Let It Be and Abbey Road albums, was previously nominated for a Grammy with this very single. It stands to reason that he would have been proud of Mac’s effort. Taking to a Rhodes-style organ, Miller delivers an endearing vocal turn, sliding into a McCartney-esque falsetto, a signature staple of decades come and gone. Check out Mac’s cover now of “Nothing From Nothing” here.

Quotable Lyrics

Cause that zero is too cold for me, brrr
I’m not tryin’ to be your highness
Cause that minus is too low to see, yeah
